A few years ago the Disney folks came up with another great benefit for guests staying at any of the Disney Resorts at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida - Disney’s Magical Express. Simply put, Disney’s Magical Express is a complimentary bus and baggage transfer service to/from the Orlando International Airport.
To make the most out of Disney’s Magical Express service, keep the following tips in mind:
1. It’s FREE! - If you are staying at one of the Disney resorts at Walt Disney World, the Disney Magical Express service is complimentary.
2. You need to provide your flight information in advance and should do so as soon as possible in order to receive your luggage tags before you leave for your Disney vacation.
3. Disney’s Magical Express offers complimentary baggage delivery right to your resort room. If you want to take advantage of this service, attach the Disney Magical Express luggage tags to your luggage BEFORE you check your luggage in at your departure airport. Then when you arrive at the Orlando airport, bypass baggage claim and go right to the Disney Magical Express counter.
4. Be sure to pack your carry-on bag with anything you might need the first few hours after you arrive. It usually takes several hours after you arrive before your luggage will be delivered to your room.
5. If you are arriving later in the evening, you may want to consider not using the baggage service as your luggage may not be delivered until very late that night or early the next morning. If you choose not to use the baggage service, you can still use the transportation. You simply would NOT attach the luggage tags to your bags. Then when you arrive at the Orlando Airport, you would collect your bags at baggage claim, and then head to Disney’s Magical Express counter.
6. The Disney Magical Express counter is located on the “B” terminal of the Orlando airport on Level 1. A cast member is usually waiting at the bottom of the elevator on Level 2 to direct you down stairs. The counter is open from 6:00am until 11:00pm. (They will stay open later if your flight is delayed or is scheduled to arrive after 11:00pm.)
7. You will be asked for your Disney Magical Express booklet when you check in at the counter on Level 1 so be sure to have it handy.
8. Once you check in, you and your family will be directed to a queue to wait for the next bus leaving for your resort. At times, one bus may stop at two or three closely located resorts. The ride is usually about 45 minutes, give or take a few minutes for extra stops. A video on staying at Walt Disney World is played enroute to keep everyone entertained.
9. The day before your departure from your Disney Resort, you will receive a letter with your bus departure time for the next day. You can plan for your departure time for domestic flights to be three hours prior to your flight time. Be sure to keep this in mind when booking your flights. Yes, a 7:00am flight means you would be picked up at 4:00am.
10. Several airlines allow you to check both you and your bags in at your resort up to 12 hours, but no less than three hours, prior to your flight time. This is a great service. The check-in service is available from 5:00am to 1:00pm each day. If you have an evening flight, you can check your luggage in, leave your carry-on bag with the bell staff and head out to the parks. Just be sure you are back to your resort in time to catch the Magical Express bus to the airport. If you are unable to check your luggage in at you resort ahead of time, then take your bags with you on the bus and check them in with your airline at the airport.
11. The return buses don’t wait. Be sure you are at the designated pick up area at your resort at least 15 minutes ahead of time. Allow extra time if you need to retrieve your carry-on bag from the bell staff.
12. Your return bus will take you to the motor coach drop-off area at the airport. This is not on the same level as the airlines check in counters so if you did not check your bags, you will need to bring your bags up to the check in level. Sometimes there are porters available to assist you and sometimes there are not. Be prepared to move your own luggage if necessary.
13. The Disney Magical Express Service can also be used in just one direction if you desire.
